The Summer Solstice is a gift to the community.
In keeping with the gift giving theme, there will be no commerce
the evening of the solstice. We understand though the need
to exchange money and be properly attired so we offer the
Goddess Market, so
that you may honor that!
Summer Solstice
Greensboro citizens resonated on a
different plane this year (2005) at the Summer Solstice Celebration in
Bicentennial Gardens. It was the first special event executed by Joie de
Vivre, a company dedicated to unleashing the goddess within each of us.
Three thousand people from every walk of life descended on the gardens
with an energy that still lingers in our minds and our hearts. There was
no violence or littering, no frustration or greed. It was a mid-summer
night’s dream that was created from the ground up. Musicians, dancers and
storytellers carved out a spot and let their creativity take flight as
children glittered their faces and inhaled the magic. It was truly a
memory that continually plays on in our daily lives.
The 60 volunteers, In-kind donors and 22 Sponsors turned vision into
action as the city celebrated the
longest day of the
year and established a new ritual for the Gate City. The outpouring of
responses and gratitude surrounding the Solstice Celebration and Goddess
Market has shown us that Greensboro is ready to raise the creative bar. We
promise to harness this good will and creativity energy to create more
projects that will move us towards the greater good.
For those of you who attended, thank you for making this event a priority
in your life and sharing your joie de vivre with others. If you missed it,
you can only imagine the magic that embraced the evening and plan to be
there next year.
The
energy derived from being at the Goddess Market and the Summer Solstice
was immense, continues
with me and has certainly enhanced my entire world. THANK YOU to you and
Karen for the vision and tremendous work to bring such a wonderful event
to the community. I think many of us live our lives with a void that we
unconsciously seek to fill without really knowing what it is or how to fix
it.
Our souls, even our psyche, are the veritable center or our existence and
without recognizing this and nurturing this spirit we do not hear the
music nor are we able to perform the dance so necessary for a full and
peaceful coexistence with nature and all the spirits that inhabit this
earth.
You do realize that you have sparked a movement that has the potential to
become quite widespread and that will certainly be a catalyst for self
enlightenment and discovery to the many who come into this light.
Again, I applaud your great spirit and energy ant the great success of
this endeavor.
